FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

Site FAQs

Why this website? This website is designed to promote community participation in resource management decisions critical to the long-term economic, social, and environmental health of Santa Cruz City and County. The discussion lists are open to all; the library provides pointers and links to studies, news articles, websites and other resources relevant to the various discussions.

Who built this site? This is a volunteer effort by Michael and Janet Singer and other residents who are concerned about the future quality of life in Santa Cruz. This group initially came together (as "Mission Possible") over concern about the lack of vision in the Mission Street Widening Project and has evolved into a watchdog organization examining the City and County transportation policies in light of Liveable City principles.

Library FAQs

How can I add a citation (i.e., link or reference to paper document) to the Library? Let us know at Librarian@SCWalkAndRoll.com and we'll cite it in the appropriate library sub-index.

What if I discover an error or omission in your summary documents? We definitely appreciate corrections and additions to the summary documents we have compiled.

Where can I find information on organizations and government agencies involves in issues addressed by these discussion boards? Check the Links of Interest in the Library for links to relevant websites and other contact information.

What are the criteria for including materials in the library? Primary criteria are 1) relevance to local transportation issues, 2) respect for technical considerations (not just anecdotes), 3) clarity of presentation, and 4) presentation of solutions instead of merely criticisms. Inclusion does not indicate endorsement.

Discussion Board FAQs [NOTE: discussion boards not presently operative]

How I can get messages automatically sent to me? Two options: 1) Subscribe to a board using the link at the top of the board's message index (subscribe to each board you're interested in separately); 2) If you only want to receive responses to a message you have posted, check the box at the bottom of the "post" form.

What's the difference between these discussion boards and a listserve discussion? For both, subscribers receive messages via email. However, instead of using your email software to post your new message or response, you visit the site using your web browser and submit a post using the online form.

What about cookies? The discussion boards use cookies to keep track of messages posted since your previous visit, maintain your personal index display preferences, and automatically insert your name and e-mail address (if you have previously posted) into your posts. You can access the entire site whether or not your browser is set to accept cookies. (Your browser allows you to set a preference for handling cookies.)

What are the rules of behavior? Posts containing offensive language and ad hominem attacks will be removed at the discretion of the discussion administrator.

Can discussion board posts include HTML code or graphics? No, but you can include a link in the field below the message. Graphics will accepted for inclusion in the Library, as web server space permits.

Privacy Policy FAQs

What is your Privacy Policy? If you subscribe to a discussion board, your privacy is guaranteed. Your information will be used only by the board management program to send you messages via email as they are posted on the board. If you post to a board yourself, you can choose to include your name and/or email address. If you include them, they will be displayed for use by discussion board participants. (You can post anonymously, if you must.) We have taken steps to inhibit spiders (software that searches the Web for email addresses to add to commercial mailing lists) from scanning for posters' email addresses, but cannot offer a guarantee in this regard.
